A fine, sunny autumn day with a cool but light wind. Once again we delved into the realm
of the mysterious entity that lurks in Monkton Wood. The outbound route was a roughly straight line
through the south eastern quarter of the wood. Alert with amulets to the fore, progress was unimpeded
as we approached Hampden Coppice. As tension reduced and alertness disappeared, we took a wrong
turning missing a right fork. By the time this was discovered, three of the party took advantage
and made a short cut whilst the rest of us continued to cover lost ground.
On re-entering Monkton our alertness was high but one of our member succumbed to the enchantment
and refused all advice to ignore what he thought was the correct path. Reluctantly, we left him
to it as no-one was willing to risk trying to drag him back. Having managed to pass the epicentre
without further incident, we heard a thrashing about in the bushes and discovered the short cutters
breaking out to meet us - evidently trapped until we found them! As we left the wood, the lost soul
we had given up suddenly appeared in our midst looking dazed and bemused. Huzzah!

Eleven started the walk, three deviants, one casualty, eleven finished. Tricorder said 5.5 miles (?) in 2 hours 10 mins. Three more joined in the pub.
